To promote diversity and multiculturalism in our community and introduce the Chinese culture and tradition to our next generation, a group of like-minded moms living in Summit, NJ and the surrounding area organized the first Lunar New Year celebration inside the Summit Public Library in 2013. Since then, this event has become a tradition and a signature program of the library. Our 2019 Summit Library Lunar New Year Cultural Week won the New Jersey State Library Multicultural Program Award and generated great impact in the community. In July 2019, the Summit Library Chinese Club (75 号俱乐部) was established. It is a volunteer-led organization that works with the Summit Library hand in hand to organize Chinese/Asian culture-related events in the community. Our programs include the twice a month Chinese Corner for children in grades K-5, summer activities for middle and high school students, annual Lunar New Year celebration series, events to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, fundraising and book donations for the library, used-Chinese books lending library, and so on.
